First or Win, what’s your choice?

FIRST(Your chances of growth depends on others) WIN(You grow as you perform)

We all grew up listening to others the theory of acing and its importance in our life, especially in terms of academics, but no one ever clarified the strategy or which “part” to ace.

Let me straight come to the point. I’ll try to explain with a specific condition related to our academics to which we can correlate easily.

Let me put two scenarios for you:

  1. First one, when you achieved your personal highest fruitful result, but in overall group results with your peers/mates/colleagues you didn’t perform well(you WIN)
  2. The second one, when you achieved the highest in your group result (i.e. with your peers/mates/colleague), but your personal growth declined this time(you came FIRST)

Which one will give you more joy/satisfaction/happiness?

I know the real juice for all of us as per the natural human tendency lies in the second one, but we all also know that the real satisfaction/joy comes from the first case.

I am nowhere declining the fact of acing or am not against being first, but the fact to be highlighted in the first scenario is much more worthy and fruitful for a longer run. How?

Since in the first scenario we are concerned about our previous performance/result without being much concerned about the social via which we are in a way unrestricted or unlimited to improve ourselves.

The time we look at someone else’s performance, we somewhere put a check/mark on our’s performance which in a way containerizes us in a false position of self-judgment.

We can understand this by an analogy…

1) Group performance. 2) Self-enhancement

The scenario which is focused more on group result is just like riding that benchmark of the first position while the one concerned more on self-enhancement is like climbing a staircase.

Your strength/spirit/courage/performance defines your benchmark when you are on the staircase, whereas that platform described in another scenario basically confines your performance.

So to avoid the trap of this fallacy we have a wonderful option open for us to always set our previous performance as a minimum threshold to be crossed every time.

This gives us numerous advantages:

  • We can perform with no limits.
  • There are no worries about social acceptance regarding our result until we are giving our best.
  • We come with shocking results(in an outstanding manner).

So whenever next time stuck in this kind of dilemma, always opt for the long run(individual best performance), you will end up with more self-confidence, better-improved performance, and a new threshold to be conquered next time.

Best wishes and congrats in advance for your future WIN😁.
